Pure Magic.

Last week we went to St. Louis and got to see Beach House live! It was absolutely amazing. Like I mentioned on Instagram/Twitter ... I hate the word 'magic' (unless you're describing Disney or Harry Potter), but this concert was completely magical. I'm not joking. I wanted to cry like the whole time! Beach House is a very, very special band to me (and Blake), so this was a dream for me!

I'm sorry I've been MIA for a while. Things have been so crazy with family, school and work. But next week is finals week, so hopefully things will slow down soon!

ps... here are a few Beach House songs that will be used in our wedding! We're using Zebra for the ceremony (our parents/grandparents/all that) will be seated during this song. And our first dance is to Real Love. Sigh. This wedding just can't come soon enough!

Watch the Throne.

This was seriously the best concert I've ever been to (and the Band of Horses show I went to last October has been hard to beat...). But I've been wanting to see Kanye since I first saw the video for Gold Digger on VH1 when I was 14 years old. Now, at 20, I finally got to see him! AND Jay Z! Life is good.

The show was absolutely amazing - everything I'd hoped it would be. It was just so... dramatic. Like, everything felt (I hate this word....) epic.

They performed all of the classics, and basically all of Watch the Throne (with the exception of my favorite, How I Love You). And on top of all of that, they did N****s in Paris 4 times in a row. Seriously, best night ever. Ever.

And of course, I got a t-shirt. Le sigh. #ilovekanye

The Midwest Indies!

Like I mentioned yesterday... last night was my first time seeing Blake play with his band, The Midwest Indies. I was so excited! They were actually very good, and I'm super looking forward to their next show in July.

The show was a benefit concert for Joplin, so a ton of people came and donated money and all that jazz. A girl in Springfield that makes clothes was selling them last night at the show, and was donating 25% of her profit to Joplin. All of the skirts she made were so stinking cute.

Speaking of clothes.... The Midwest Indies got their new t-shirts in. Seriously, how creative was this idea?! Want one? I'm gonna talk them into letting me sell them on Etsy... ;)

Sleigh Bells + Neon Indian.

Yesterday, Blake and I went to Kansas City to celebrate our 6 month anniversary. We had such a good day just walking around the Plaza, doing some shopping (I got the LOL Cam from UO. Totally stoked about using it), and got yummy red velvet layered cheesecake. Seriously so good. Here's a few Instagrams of our day :)
I got a much needed pedicure while I was in St. Louis after going to Florida. Blake was such a boy, and wouldn't get one. Lameo!I got this at Forever 21 yesterday. And it was so hot outside, I put it on like right after I bought it. And I have yellow nails. Neon Indian! I have never listened to them before, and I was very impressed. Not necessarily my favorite kind of music (hello, Band of Horses is my favorite band. haha) but I enjoyed it a lot. A lot a lot.Sleigh Bells. So good live. So good. I freaked out a little though. But I still enjoyed it, despite the fact that I had a headache, couldn't breathe, and had to keep my head down most of the time. But I loved it!

Record Store Day + Elton John concert :)

My record collection grew!

Record Store Day was a success, I'd say.

We went to CD Warehouse first, and while we were there, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin played a little acoustic set. Awkward to the max.
But... as you can see, Blake and I found some pretty good records to add to our collection.

Its fun to think that we started this in December with Arcade Fire's The Suburbs, and now we have a whole bunch and we'll just keep adding to it. I love it. :)

Who met the lead singer of Band of Horses? THIS GIRL.

Tonight was SO much fun. Band of Horses was absolutely incredible.

As I kept mentioning here (and on Twitter), I was supposed to meet the band.

WELL.

Things did not go as planned, AT ALL.

Dad got a text from Nancy (the drummer's mother in-law), that said that Kings of Leon is from Oklahoma, and so all of their family & friends were there, and there were no more backstage passes... SO. Dad and I were like, it's cool, whatevs, at least we get to see them again (we saw them in October in KC).

After they were done playing, we took a mini break, and got some food, bought a SUPER cute t-shirt, and talked for a bit. Soon after all of this, Kings of Leon started playing. The crowd was absolutely RIDICULOUS. Gosh darn. Middle aged women in short clubbing dresses & cowboy boots. Ooh, buddy.

Anyways, dad and I moved to the back of the floor crowd, to finish eating and just chill, since we don't care of KOL too much.

And then.. Ben Bridwell, the lead singer of Band of Horses, walked past us. I. Freaked. I made my dad go over with me, and ask him to take a picture with me.

A little after that, the bassist walked by, too, but dad's phone had died by then. Sad. But at least I got to meet them!

It's funny because I was a bit bummed because I knew I wasn't going to go backstage and all that, and I was telling Blake about it, and he said he knew it was going to work out because I am the luckiest person he knows... I guess that's true, especially after tonight. :)

Outfit + Band of Horses

Today has been a wonderful day, despite the gloomy rain. Usually I love rain. But usually I don't have to drive in it. So...that was a bit of a bummer. I'm not a very good driver in yucky weather.

I went to Blake's for dinner and we came up with amazing plans for Saturday to see the new Director's Cut of Never Say Never. (BIEBER FEVER!) Really. I can't wait.

Dad informed me that it has been officially confirmed that we will be backstage for the Band of Horses/Kings of Leon concert in April. On the inside (...and outside) I am freaking out. My dad's friends are now the in-laws of the drummer, so... instant connection. It is beyond awesome. How did I ever get so lucky? Dad told me how the process will work. Nancy (the mother in law of the drummer) said that they way it usually goes is that she points out to him who gets to come backstage, and he comes out and personally gets us. .....in a little over a month, I will be meeting the members of my favorite band. I think I might cry. I want to just thinking about it! (silly me..)

I am finally home and watching "The Bad Seed" which was made in 1956, so its one of those classic, black & white horror films. Perfect.

day 11: favorite tv shows.

As of lately, The Bachelor is like crack to me. I have to watch it. I seriously caught up on this entire season in like 2 days because I watched 1 episode and got mega addicted. Its so ridiculous, I love it.

Other shows I watch on a semi regular basis: The Office, Parks and Recreation, Glee.

Netflix is really good for me; I can watch just about any tv show that's been cancelled in the past few years. One of my recent favorites is L.A. Ink. Over the summer, I watched all 7 seasons of Nip Tuck. I'll tackle Lost eventually, I just don't feel like my brain is up to it yet.

Last night was so much fun! I was way tired, seeing as I'm usually in bed at like 7:30, and Smith Westerns didn't play until close to midnight (and then even after that, we had to drive back home. blah). But the music was good so I can't complain.

How tired do I look? HA. I was exhausted.

I just did some MAJOR work on my 2 To Kill a Mockingbird essays, and I feel like I'm about to pass out. So I think I will do that now.

Band of Horses, numero dos

So, as I said, I would post a huuuge long video post from the Band of Horses show! Dad finally uploaded the videos from his iPhone to my Mac, so here they are! The photos/videos are amazing quality! Videos on iPhone 4 are shot in HD, which is suuuper awesome. I love it. Dad got all of my favorites, and then some. So.. enjoy :)

Evening Kitchen - They started the evening with this song, and it was an amazing start. I hate admitting this, but I totally cried. It was just awesome.

No One's Gonna Love You - Sigh. I'm pretty sure I cried some more. I really love how they played this song acoustically, rather than the "real" version. It was wonderful.

Cigarettes, Wedding Bands - Holy cow. This has been one of my favorite songs for forever, so I was so stoked for this song. It was amazing! This was toward the end of the show.

The General Specific - This is my dad's favorite song, and he was so excited to see it live. He was upset after the show was over and he realized he miss the first 15-20 seconds of the song. The slideshow in the background was absolutely amazing! The photographer of all of those pictures (I'm not sure who it is), is doing the photos for my friend's sister's wedding (she's marrying the drummer of BoH!)

The Funeral - Holy. Cow. Talk about chills & goosebumps. So amazing. Truly. Everyone at the show was singing along and having such a great time. So good.

Is There a Ghost? - This was the very last song of the encore, and it is one of my current favorites of theirs. Perfect ending to a perfect show. <3

Band. Of. Horses.

HOLY COW.

I can honestly say that the show last night was one of the most amazing nights ever.

My dad and I road tripped to Kansas City yesterday afternoon (I had hopes of making it in time to find some bubble tea before the show...but my silly political science midterm got in the way of leaving before 3:30. Sad face). We listened to cute music, and talked about what we thought the show would be like, which songs we wanted hear, etc. I love taking trips with my dad.

The first band, Besnard Lakes, were.. interesting. The lead singer looked like he had just stepped out of the late 70s, and he sang like a girl. Their music was very different than Band of Horses, but everyone was super into them, including my dad.

The second band, Brad, or something like that, was no good. Everyone was talking and not paying attention. Even my dad leaned over at tone point and said, "I liked the first band better..." They were all old folks too! It was ridiculous! Everyone went crazy when they were finished...because they were finished. And one guy next to me said, "I wonder if they put them before Band of Horses plays so BOH looks infinitely better than everyone else that's played tonight?" Hahaha.. awesome.

Band of Horses was incredible. They started off in the balcony of the theatre, with just Ben & Tyler playing. They did Evening Kitchen and then No One's Gonna Love You acoustic, before moving down to the stage and starting the "real" part of the show.

As soon as the acoustic part was done, and the lights were going, and the music was loud, the couple behind me immediately fired up their marijuana. And then they did it again when they played Weed Party. Of course.

All of their backgrounds were awesome... they were all nature scenes and stuff. Sooo pretty. During The General Specific, it was like a huge slideshow of tour pictures and such. So cool.

Dad didn't really listen to their music before the concert, he only knew of The General Specific, so he was super looking forward to that song, which they didn't play till the end, where they played all of their "popular" songs. Dad was a trooper though! He recorded all of my favorite songs on his iPhone for me, and waited patiently for his song to be played. :)

The last few songs were The General Specific, Cigarettes,Wedding Bands, and The Funeral.

The Funeral was like, seriously a tear jerker. It was so amazing live. The song is amazing to begin with, but nothing compares to hearing/seeing it live. I called Cassie during the song, because she wanted to be there so bad, and I'm really wishing she could've been.

The encore was The Great Salt Lake (haha, the guy next to me really liked that song. You could visibly tell), and Is There A Ghost. AH! Is There a Ghost is my absolute favorite!! And I think it is dad's new favorite too.

After the show was over, I bought a shirt (prettiest shirt ever), and we searched for a gas station that didn't look too ghetto so I could pee and switch spots with dad and drive.

It was awesome.

Other highlights included Ode to the LRC, NW Apartment, Marry Song, and Laredo.

I really wish they would've played their new cover of Cee Lo Green's "Georgia." I heard the single the other day, but I wanted to hear it live! Aww shucks. Oh well. :)

They didn't allow "professional" cameras in, and all I brought was the Canon Rebel xsi, so I had to take it back to the car. Bummer. So all I have are iphone photos. :(

I'm so glad that my dad got to go with me. He kept going back and forth trying to decide if he could, and finally he decided he could. I think he's glad he went. All he wanted to listen to on the ride home was Band of Horses. He loved it. :)
