Like Crazy.

Saturday, March 24, 2012

So Blake and I rented Like Crazy a few nights ago, and hello, tearjerker. I have to say - I didn't cry at all, probably because I just wasn't in the mood to cry, but it's seriously a sad movie. A sad-happy movie. Whatever. I liked it. It brought back a lot of those feelings. Those weirdo, so in 'love' you can hardly stand it, kind of feelings.

Although I loved it (like, really, really loved it), I think it tried a little to hard to be relevant with today's younger crowd (with references like Nylon Magazine & shopping at Topshop... it was just a bit too much for me). But over all, I super suggest you see it if you haven't yet. It's pretty much in my favorites category now; I really need to go out and buy it. And, may I just say. I'm totally crushing on Anton Yelchin. Holy cute boy alert!

Have you seen Like Crazy yet?

Happy Hunger Games Day!

Friday, March 23, 2012

I know that, technically, everyone was saying yesterday was Hunger Games day, but I'm saying it's today. ;)
I'm so excited to see the movie! I haven't really shown interest/cared at all about the series, until I picked up the book a few days before my surgery. I read the first chapter, right before they put me under anesthesia. After that, I couldn't remember what I'd read, so I started it over a few days ago. I'm hooked! I'm so sad I don't have a lot of time to read, but I'm reading whenever I can.

Tomorrow, I have a hot date with my little brother, Tucker, and I'm taking him to see it, since he's a big fan of the books. I love these special little dates! But, now I'm in a mad race to finish the book before tomorrow night! Did any of you finish the book in a day or two? Give me hope, please!

I'll be back soon with a brand new room tour! But during the wait, here are a few peeks at our living room, via my roommate Anna! (isn't it the best that two bloggers live together?!)

Hipster Tuesdays

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Every Tuesday, Blake's friends get together for this thing they call "Hipster Tuesday." Let me tell you, ever since I started going, I've had so much fun. They are such a great group of guys, and they are hilarious (Coop blogs! and Zach is about to start a blog, and it sounds awesome!)
Anyways, usually they eat at a mexican restaurant, hit up Starbucks, and go to one of the guys' houses for a movie (usually old movies, on vhs if someone's got it). Well, since my roomie is out of town on her honeymoon (!!!), I decided to switch things up on them and have it at my house. Tons of fun.
We watched Suspiria, which I'd never seen before...and it's alright. Definitely not a favorite, I liked Opera muuuch more. Anywho, these were just a few photos of our night!

Thoughts on Breaking Dawn, Part One.

Sunday, November 20, 2011

As I do every year, I saw Breaking Dawn P1 at midnight Thursday night. It was an "eh" kind of night (won't go into that), but the movie was not disappointing, in the least. I absolutely loved it, even though it seemed to be dragging in some parts (then again - I had been awake for nearly 23 hours by the time it was over).
Just so you know, I am for.ever. Team Jacob.
Also, just so you know, past this point are spoilers, spoilers, and..more spoilers. You've been warned.

I'll start from the beginning.

Alice's wedding prep: the scene was funny, but short lived. I agree with Betsey when she says they rushed into the wedding scene. It was like, "oh hey, the movie is starting, oh hey, Bella and Edward are getting married." All in like, 2 minutes. I also disliked how the day before the wedding Bella was stumbling around the heels, and the day of the wedding, she walked (basically) perfectly down the aisle.
The wedding: my dream wedding. Seriously. I was in awe of the atmosphere they created for the scene. Absolutely gorgeous. Other than that, Jessica kept me cracking up the entire time with her pregnancy jokes and her sarcastic remarks about how the cake wasn't big enough. Loved it. Charlie seemed like a "real" dad all during the wedding. His character was perfect and relatable for fathers, I'm sure. The toasts during the reception were spot on. I loved Emmett's hidden vampire joke that Charlie super took the wrong way. I loved Jessica's bitterness towards Edward choosing Bella ("She's definitely not the captain of the volleyball team... or class president...").
Bella's wedding dress: U G L Y. In my opinion, at least. I know plenty of people loved it. And she was all kinds of stunning in it (K.Stew actually looked pretty for once! She could've smiled a bit more though, darn emo kid), but I just wasn't a fan of the dress.
The honeymoon: I was rather disappointed in this entire sequence. The "sex scene" made me feel weird. As I was telling my friend Cassie, I've been waiting 3 years for the honeymoon, and when it finally happened, I just wanted to cover my eyes because I felt so weird and awkward watching it. I love the series, and I respect Stephanie Meyer's lack of sex in the books, but seriously - we all wanted it, why not give it to us?! I did love seeing Bella's anticipation and anxiousness though. That was super adorable.
The pregnancy: Bella drinking blood through a straw was gag-worthy. Especially when blood was like, all over her teeth and lips. Ewwy.
The wolves being all weird and stuff: The little scene where Jacob rebels against the pack was SO cheesy, I wanted to laugh the entire time. seriously, why didn't they just phase back into humans to fight? So dumb.
The birth: So perfect. I love that Edward had to bite through her stomach. That was my favorite part of the book, for reals.
Jacob imprinting on the baby: Yet again, another incredibly cheesy scene. I hated the way they shot it. Lame, lame, lame!
Rosalie: In the book, it's very clear that Rosalie is very possessive and protective of the unborn baby, and even when it's born she's all over it. But in the movie, I didn't really "feel" it. I think they could've done more with that. They tried, I'll give them that.

Over all, I enjoyed it. I am a TwiHard through and through, so I'll never say that I didn't enjoy it. It's the best of the series, but definitely not my favorite.
Have you seen it yet? Do you have any thoughts? I'd love to hear them : )

Boca Mocha + Harry Potter

Sunday, July 17, 2011

A few days ago, Blake and I tried a new coffee shop in downtown Springfield (as if it needed another one...). It's called Boca Mocha, and it took the place of my favorite coffee shop, Rendezvous. Walking in, I was so excited to see all the changes the new owners had made - the atmosphere was completely different and it's all so bright and airy! I absolutely can't wait for Colby to come back so he and I can go together. Rendezvous was our favorite to go to, so maybe this can be our new favorite!
I'm a coffee girl, but I got a peach smoothie (I'm on a smoothie kick lately, I got one today too!). It was so. yum.
I definitely wanted to go back today for my smoothie fix, but they're not open on Sundays. Sad face. Maybe next time!
Blake and I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 last night.... and again this afternoon. We loved it! Blake is a huge Harry Potter fan, so obviously he loved it a bit more than I did, but I still enjoyed it. I've never read the books, but I've seen all of the movies. Earlier this year, I started reading the first book, but never finished. Maybe I'll start it again this week? Have any of you seen it yet??

xo Haley

p.s. I made this wreath for mine and Anna's home! What do you think? I'm pretty much in love with it.

Today is For..

Monday, April 11, 2011

Can I just say, I love this boy very, very much. Read this and you'll see why. :)
He's so wonderful, I don't know what I'd do without him.

It is officially Monday, and it's been a while since I've done one of these posts, so...
Today is for...
- watching an outrageous amount of television
- hanging out in pajamas all day
- finishing the rest of my "6 to 8" page paper on Sci-Fi/Fantasy books for Children's Lit
- starting on another paper for Children's Lit (this one is on Marc Brown, the author of the Arthur books.. best paper ever)
- hanging out with grandpa. Who turned 63 yesterday!

In other news...
I am currently watching House of Wax for the second time in a row tonight.
Sometimes, I forget how good-bad this movie really is. I first saw it when it came out when I was in 7th grade. I remember seeing it with my friend Kelsey on my family vacation because we were "too cool" to go hang out at the beach. Hahaha. DORKS.
But seriously, this movie is awesome. And Blake has never seen it. We'll be watching it VERY soon. :)
In other news, part two...
I am currently eating Nutella by the spoonful, right out of the jar.
Keepin it classy.

Insidious.

Sunday, April 10, 2011

So.
The boyfriend and I saw Insidious last night.
It. Was. Terrifying.
It was everything a horror film should be. And the music, which was what made so awful for me, was absolutely perfect.
We had no expectations for it, whatsoever (hello, Patrick Wilson isn't the greatest actor in the world), but it was so much better than I thought it ever could be.
I kiiinda want to see it again, just to see if I could actually watch it the second time around (I had my eyes and ears covered the majority of the film..haha).
I will most definitely never, ever, ever watch this at home though. Too scary.
xo Haley! :)

Friday Favorite:

Friday, March 4, 2011

Blake and I saw Blue Valentine last night, and although it was the number 2 most depressing movie of my life, I really liked it. It's sort of got me scared of marriage. Just a tad.
The music was good, too. But the soundtrack is Grizzly Bear, so how could it not be good?
This was my favorite:

Ooh! I also saw Janel last night for a tiny bit.
I miss her already. Thank goodness she's here until Saturday :)
Have a happy Friday ♥

Burlesque.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I saw Burlesque last night... It was the ultimate cheese-fest. It was so silly, the acting was terrible, and the story was way overdone. But the costumes and the club scenes were absolutely mesmerizing. I have never wanted to be in a movie as bad as Burlesque. Except for maybe Gone with the Wind. But that's for completely different reasons. :)
Burlesque was so full of feathers, and beads, and sequins, and pretty things. I want to wear those outfits! Especially this one:
I wish you could see the rest of it... there are hand prints on the butt, too. Its so hilariously cute. I WANT.
And it was so hilarious watching Colby get excited every time Cher sang a song (which was only twice. Thank goodness). I'm not much of a Cher fan, but my best friend sure is. :)
Anyways... here are my two favorite parts. The first is just adorable, and the second features the costume I want. :)

Go see Burlesque. If only for the reason that its good for a laugh or two. :)
xo Haley

oh, and to make this a legit post....
Here are some sweet Harry Potter cupcakes that I should probably make for my boyfriend sometime. :)

Dear Joaquin, I used to love you.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

I watched this last night:I've had a crush on Joaquin Phoenix for about 5 years now. Its a pretty serious crush. Or should I say... it was a serious crush. I'm Still Here has ruined Joaquin for me. For real.
I know that the whole thing was just a hoax... but really. He was absolutely insane, and it was sort of scary sometimes. I laughed through most of it just because of how ridiculous he was. But anyways... I no longer have a crush on Mr. Phoenix. But as soon as I watch Walk the Line this weekend (for the millionth time), I'll probably be right back in obsession mode.

Dear Joaquin Phoenix,
Snorting cocaine, getting blow jobs from prostitutes, and rapping really, really badly is not the way to win over a girl. Just sayin.
xo Haley

Also:
I am the master of trickery.

Grandpa kept asking me what I was doing and who I was sending "that" to. He doesn't really understand Photo Booth (he doesn't understand at all, actually) so he had no idea I was making a video. I wish I would've kept recording a bit longer because after he got on his laptop, he started dancing/singing to "Turn the Beat Around" ....yup. Sorry you guys missed that one.
:)

I've been at home for nearly 3 hours and I refuse to take my coat off.

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Its been a lazy day.
I'm currently working on a special something for the boy's mom. I love making things for other people. :)
Yesterday, I got off work around 12, and then tried out the new coffee shop (no bueno) and went home to take a nap/watch Inland Empire. Ever since Blake had me watch Blue Velvet, I've been on this crazy David Lynch spree, and all I want to do is watch his films. I watched Mulholland Drive a few weekends ago, and yesterday I watched Inland Empire. It was 3 hours long, and I have no clue as to what happened in those 3 hours. But I was mega creeped out:

I like his style though. I like being confused, despite the fact that I ask a ton of questions, and get really nervous. I started watching The Elephant Man, but I fell asleep/had to go back to work, so I only got to watch half-ish of it. I liked it though, so I need to finish it soon. :)

I also watched The Chumscrubber - which I liked, but it was depressing.
I'm hoping Black Swan will come to the Moxie soon, because I feel the insane need to see it.
I also h a v e to see Tron. I must confess though, Daft Punk is the one and only reason I want to see it though. :)

xo Hay

From now on, I'm Switzerland, okay? :)

Guess what I watched TWICE today?
Yeah, totally.
I rented Eclipse last night, but I didn't actually get around to watching it until today.
This morning I was laying on the couch watching "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" when I realized I still had Eclipse, and I was like, "WTF, Haley?! Why are you watching this when you could be watching the wonder known as Eclipse?!"
So I've watched it once all the way through, and I'm half way through it for a second time.
Wonderful.
I'm sure Blake is having fun getting all these random texts full of quotes from the movie, which are insanely dumb taken out of the context of the movie. ....Even when in the movie, they are still dumb.
But what's better than making fun of a crappy movie? Nothing, that's what.
I love you Twilight, for making my life sooo much better.
Just kidding.

too early for Christmas.

Friday, November 12, 2010

today, my boss & i spent the day getting the tea room ready for the Christmas open house going on this weekend in town.
a) its only november 12th. too soon.
b) its not even thanksgiving yet. too soon.
c) too. freaking. soon.
there is no need for the businesses downtown to be covered in garland and christmas lights. no. need. its way too soon for christmas!

anyways, we had some really good conversation about kanye west and ate some life changing pumpkin fudge.
so basically, it was a good day. other than the mid november christmas decor.

tomorrow, i'm cutting my hair.
like, cutting, cutting.
i'm only semi freaking out.
it'll be something close to this:
Colby has been telling me to cut my hair like "that girl in the Wristcutters movie" for the longest time. Like, years. When we watched the movie he told me to do it. And every time I talk about doing something with my hair he's always like, "well... you know what you should do..."
soo.. I think i'm gonna do it. i'm nervous. but whatevs. hair grows back.
so, tonight, i'm making a "winter wreath" for the tea room, watching movies, cleaning my room, and saying goodbye to my pretty hair. :(
dear semi/not really long hair,
i worked really hard to grow out my hair. we've had a good run. see you again in a few years, maybe. xo, haley.

highlight of my weekend:

The Room.
The most epic movie anyone will ever see in their lifetime. For real.
Tommy Wiseau is pretty much the best man alive. He made this gem of a movie and he also made the short film "The House That Drips Blood on Alex"... which is just as epic.
But seriously. The Room, although horribly executed (and horribly written, and just plain horrible), is amazing, beyond all comparison.
I watched this the other night with my friend, Blake, who's seen it probably a million times, and can quote pretty much all of it. It is absolutely ridiculous. This movie was by far the best part of my weekend. Sunday night was pretty rad too, when I found Wiseau's short film online.
I swear... I will SO make this cake for Blake's birthday next year. This is the best. Ever.
Watch the trailer.. and be amazed. :)

I'm sure you totally want to watch the movie now, right?
Thought so.
:)

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 28: something that stresses you out.
School. I really underestimated how stressful community freaking college would be. I really, really dislike OTC, and can't wait to transfer. My parents want me to wait it out another year before making the move to Southeast, but ... I really don't think it's worth it. Laaame.

30 Days of Truth: Day 17: A book that has changed your views on something.
I'm not sure if this book changed my views on much, but it has definitely been very influential in my life as a reader.
I first read The Giver when I was in 4th grade. I was 10, I think. I have read it at least 4 times in the past 7ish years. Every so often, I just have to read it again.
The story is set in this "perfect" town (very Pleasantville-ish to me, everything is black and white, with zero color, and everyone is practically perfect), but throughout the book, you realize this town is not perfect at all. The government is all for what is called "Sameness" in which everyone is the same; the have predetermined careers that are given to them at a certain age, they have rules to follow, and everyone is completely void of emotional depth.
The central character, Jonas, is presented with the job of being "The Giver" who is there to aid the government in any decisions that may come up. The previous Giver teaches Jonas of the town before "Sameness" and presents him with a much larger world outside of his own. Jonas experiences feelings of true happiness, pain, love, etc.
I'm not sure why this story affected me the way it did, but I have loved it for many, many years. It is definitely one of the most influential books in my life.

I was put in charge of getting all of the winter clothes put away - I was super angry that I had to do this at first, and then I happened upon a pretty, pretty quilt in the bottom of one of the boxes. Holy cow, I was so in love with it.
I immediately put it on my bed, and I really can't wait to go to sleep tonight because of it. It has the most perfect fall colors and its just.. pretty. I'm in love. ♥

Oh! And there's the owl pillow I got at Funtiques a while back for 5 bucks. Best. Ever. It says, "Gee, but I'm lonesome."
I also found this too-cute crochet baby jacket in the box, too. I'm not too entirely sure of why it was in the Winter clothing box, but... I'm so keeping this. Haha:)
other silly things from my week:
we had an assignment in my Safety & Sanitation class to eat a buffet and "observe" what was going on at the buffet and such. Well, my partners (2 dudes I hardly know) and I decided we weren't going to eat at some gross buffet, so we chose Hemingways in Bass Pro. Yup. Seafood all the way. We also noticed there was absolutely nothing wrong with the way they were operating the buffet, so now we have nothing to write our paper on. Haha. But, while at Bass Pro, we decided to get a picture of me with the bear to prove that I have been in Bass Pro (no one in my class believes me). Best photo ever. I absolutely love Red Velvet being 2 minutes away from my school. I can see that making quick trips over to RV for Bubble Tea between classes is going to become a very bad habit. I love it.

Have a happy Sunday :)
xo Haley

P.s. I watched The Room last night. Verdict: So. Effing. Retarded.
But I loved it so much I watched it again this morning.
:)

I can't think of a clever title for this one.

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 24: Something you've learned.
Let's see.. I've learned that I can't please everyone. I've tried really hard for the longest time, but I've come to terms with the fact that I can't do it. No one can.
I've also learned that I really, really love sleep. I seriously need like 8 or 9 hours to get through the day. Crazy talk.

30 Days of Truth: Day 13: A band that has gotten you through tough times.
Oh gosh - I don't know. I've been into a very wide range of music throughout my young life. In junior high, I was way into creepy rock music. My Chemical Romance & Green Day were my bands. Hahaha. Oh, how things change.
Nowadays, I listen to a lot of CocoRosie & Best Coast when I'm feeling down (they cheer me up instantly). And occasionally Modest Mouse when I'm in need of just noise.

Woody Allen love: I don't know why I waited this long to watch Woody Allen films. But, nevertheless, I'm actually glad I did. I don't think I'd have the same appreciation for them then, that I do now. I watched Hannah and Her Sisters last night...

I absolutely loved it. So good. So, so good. It made me miss New York so much (but then again - what doesn't make me miss that city?)
And right now, I'm watching Annie Hall. Every time it comes on TV, I always intend on watching it, but I never do. And finally, a friend had me completely convinced to give it a shot. So.. I'm watching it right as we speak.

So far, I like it. But I must say that Hannah and Her Sisters is better. But then again, I haven't seen all of Annie Hall yet. So, we shall see.
And tonight, I'm going to clean up my room, make some tea, and settle in to watch Whatever Works. Another Woody Allen film. Goodness me, I can't get enough. :)
Ohh, Woody Allen. :)
x0. haley.

Day 5, 6 and 7.

Friday, October 15, 2010

Heyy! I'm going to be gone on a youth retreat for church (as an adult this time!), so I thought I'd go ahead and post days 5, 6, and 7. :)

Day 5: My siblings.
Wellllll. What can I say about my brothers, other than they annoy the living daylights out of me, but they are super awesome. I love them.
This is Trevor. He and I have some major differences. But he is the most loyal brother (and friend), that I could ever ask for. I have gone through a lot lately and he's always been there for me, first to make fun of me, and then second to offer to kick the butt of whoever is messing with me. He and I are very close in age (about a year and a half apart), so we've always been there for each other. My little bro is graduating this year, and I couldn't be more proud of him. He is a wonderful, and creative young man. He is so incredibly gifted when it comes to working with cars. The truck in the above picture? Completely reworked it and painted it himself. He's awesome. I love you, Trev. This is Mr. Cooper. He is in 8th grade, and will be 14 next month! He is getting so old, and I can't believe he is going to be a little high schooler a year from now. Cooper is a country boy at heart. We live in the middle of town, but he has worked on my grandpa's farm for years and years. He is so tall. Taller than me. He's always been big for his age, but he's finally growing into himself, and he's such a cutie. Right now, he's going through his typical teenager phase, and it is super obvious. He's a little jerk sometimes, but what 13 year old brother isn't? :) This little cutie is Tucker! He is 11, and the cutest little boy you will ever see. (And as I read in Claire's blog today, one of her little bros is a lot like Tuck! They both can tell you anything about Star Wars! Such cool kids) He loves to ride in my "cool car" and when we listen to the radio, he loves to sing along to Ke$ha and Katy Perry. He has always been my little buddy and I hate that he's getting so old on me. He's in 5th grade now, and I have a hard time keeping track of his age (I think I'll always think he's 10). I love the little boy a lot. He's awesome.
(Trevor isn't one for group pictures...or family trips, so we very rarely have pictures together)
I have a wonderful family. I can't wait to move out. But I love them a lot and I'm so blessed.
P.s. this is my 'little sis,' Savannah Reed :)
She is my 6 year old (I think she's 6..?) cousin and I love her so much! She loves all things Disney, and iCarly is one of her favorite shows. She plays all kinds of sports already (recently she's been really into cheerleading. Ha!) and she loves having girls nights with her Hay (that would be me) and grandma. We have a date in a few weeks to go out to dinner and go see a movie of Miss Nanna's choice. She's super excited to make all the decisions and go out just the two of us. I'm excited to spend the time with her :)

Day 6: Photo of something that makes me happy.
I absolutely l o v e these photos. They will always be wonderful memories for me. It was always "our thing" to do this before homecoming & prom. We seriously have been doing this since freshman year. Except for sophomore year, when we didn't even go to homecoming together (that was a strange thing). I love these girls. Its awesome seeing Breigh (the blonde one) every day, but I miss Cassie so much. My girl is off in St. Louis for college, and I'm way stoked to see her next weekend! <3

Day 7: Favorite movies.

I have a few:
Wristcutters: A Love Story. This movie has been a favorite for a few years now. The plot is a little on the dark side, but it is absolutely wonderful. It has such a cute love story in it. I just love this movie. I mean, its soundtrack is completely Gogol Bordello, and it has Tom Waits in it. What more could a movie need?!

Gone with the Wind. Gosh. I can't even explain to you how much this movie means to me. I first saw it when I was 12. I was in 6th grade and grew to love it to the point that I watched at least half of it every single night. I own 3 different copies of the movie (1 VHS, a DVD set, and on Blu-Ray) and I have numerous postcards, books, dolls, etc. (I even have a tin lunchbox..) This is one of theee best movies ever. For real.

Another one of my favorites is Requiem for a Dream. I would post a trailer for it, but I can't find a decent one (sad face). Just trust me- its a good one. Its sooo sad though. When it's over, you find yourself to be emotionally exhausted. It has that weird effect on people. It is about a woman who is addicted to her prescription diet pills, and her son and his friends who are addicted to heroin. Ultimately, their addictions ruin them. Such a sad story, but so good. Plus...it has a wonderful score (give it a listen. so beautiful). Oh, and it has Jared Leto in it. Umm, amazing, much? :)

This has been one incredibly long post. Sorry for the boringness. <3

Enjoy your weekend!
