Elizabeth Haley has moved!

Monday, October 8, 2012

The time has come for Elizabeth Haley to end.

But not really.

I moved my blog to another location, and I'm so happy I did. I needed a new space so bad... I started blogging here at Elizabeth Haley the summer I graduated, and it's been a learning process. It's been a fun 2 years. So now I move my blog to another space that's fresh and new and that represents this new phase of my life.

I hope you join me!

Forgotten Disposable Cameras.

Sunday, August 12, 2012

I don't know about you, but I forget that I have disposable cameras to use up all the time. It takes me months to use all 27 pictures! Does anyone know why there are 27 photos...why not 25? Or 30? Anyways.. here are a few photos from one of my (many) disposable cameras!
1. Me. (as of yesterday) 2. Blake and I are doing the "Real Marriage" study at church. We love it, but haven't been able to go in a few weeks! Hoping to get back into the habit of going weekly. 3. Calm mornings and a delicious breakfast are my favorite things. 4. Mr. Blake. 5 & 6. I started working at Red Velvet a few weeks ago. I love it there.

I went with Blake's family to say goodbye to his cousin, Ashley, for 6 months while she goes to study in China! It was an extremely early morning (3:50 am!!), but it was worth it! Love you Ashley!

Hope your Sunday is a great one! :)

I can't for the life of me figure out the spacing on these pictures, and I'm way too tired to mess it with it at the moment... so I apologize!!

Pure Magic.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Last week we went to St. Louis and got to see Beach House live! It was absolutely amazing. Like I mentioned on Instagram/Twitter ... I hate the word 'magic' (unless you're describing Disney or Harry Potter), but this concert was completely magical. I'm not joking. I wanted to cry like the whole time! Beach House is a very, very special band to me (and Blake), so this was a dream for me!

I'm sorry I've been MIA for a while. Things have been so crazy with family, school and work. But next week is finals week, so hopefully things will slow down soon!

xo Haley

ps... here are a few Beach House songs that will be used in our wedding! We're using Zebra for the ceremony (our parents/grandparents/all that) will be seated during this song. And our first dance is to Real Love. Sigh. This wedding just can't come soon enough!

Monday Morning.

Monday, July 9, 2012

My morning: lucky charms, honeymoon planning, Parks and Recreation. Last night, I completely figured out a potential itinerary for our trip to Disney World. We aren't going until next October, but we are trying to get all of this stuff figured out in the next few months so we don't have to worry about it while we are doing the majority of the wedding planning. Surprisingly enough, we have a lot of stuff planned out for the honeymoon. All that needs to be done is get a room booked and get restaurant reservations. Yay!

How's your Monday going so far? I got an unexpected day off, so I'm using it to browse Pinterest.. so productive! :)
xo Haley

Ps... I got my first spray tan. I had gotten so used to being pale for the past few years (I used to tan a lot in high school... no bueno, you guys!) - and I don't get the chance to 'lay out' in the sun or at a pool all that often. So.. I got a spray tan! It's seriously not that bad; I didn't turn out orange or some unnatural color, it wasn't awkward (okay, it was kind of sort of awkward). I felt gross for a while since you can't shower for 8 hours, and I felt really sticky - oh, and you can't wash your hands! That was gross. But it's not all bad! I've enjoyed my week of color and maybe I'll do it again soon. :)

Rainy Day

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Today was a day dedicated to homework and watching girly movies. I'm so grateful Blake puts up with my movie choices (we watched The Proposal and Burlesque today. But, I have to say - I did turn on the Harry Potter marathon just for him for a bit). We went to Marshfield while my parents were out of town to wait on a package I have been expecting, so we took the day to get ahead on some homework since we will be in St. Louis for most of the coming week. (Beach House concert!)
Fun fact: I will only eat cashew chicken from Oriental Inn in Marshfield. Seriously. It's the best! I know that this style of cashew chicken originated in Springfield, but the cashew chicken around here is just plain nasty to me! Oriental Inn > Hong Kong Inn. Definitely.
Also: Blake and I are absolutely obsessed with Skrillex's remix of La Roux's In For The Kill. I hate to admit this (and he's gonna kill me for it!) but we are suckers for dubstep every now and then. We joke about how we are so gonna dance to this at our wedding... :)

Obsessing over Duck Dynasty. Seriously. Why have I not watched this show before? It's so great. And really brings out the redneck in me. Scary business.

Working on nothing at the moment, but the latest craft project has been making prototypes for cutlery packets for our reception. Which by the way, I'm pretty positive that we are doing a dinner reception first, followed by the ceremony! More details on that soon. :)

Thinking about food. All I've done today is eat. My dad BBQ'd and my mom and I made so many desserts it's ridiculous.

Listening to Duck Dynasty on A&E. I'm not joking when I say that I have watched this all afternoon. Blake and I love it!

Wishing for a relaxing and refreshing weekend. It feels like life has been go-go-go all the time, I just need a break! And next week, we are taking a mid-week trip to St. Louis to see Beach House. So excited!

Happy 4th of July to all you Americans! I am absolutely exhausted from today's festivities. I'm in need of a very long nap. Although, it's now dinner time, and pretty soon it'll be bedtime, so I'm pretty sure I won't be getting that nap. Oh well!
:)

I used to be a musical theatre geek.

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

A way long time ago, I was so sure that musical theatre was IT for me. My home was on Broadway. I was SO sure of it. It's crazy how things change right? :)
My iPod was filled to the brim with original cast recordings and you'd have to scroll through the hundreds of "Cast Of's..." to get to 'real' music. Ridiculous!
Well, I thought it would be fun to show you a few photos from mine (and Colby Kern's!) time in a local production of The Music Man. :)

 Colby, the ladies man. ;)

That was a summer well spent! I even convinced my fantastic parents to join me, and they loved it so much they did a show the next year without me! (They were in Hello Dolly!) This was my last show to have ever done, and I miss it so much. I need to get involved in theater again.
What's something you used to be super involved in? I'd love to hear about it. :)

Instagram Life.

1. My first Arm Party. I don't wear bracelets, watches, etc. too often... I just feel like I don't pull off that "look," but I really liked all of these together, so who knows, maybe I'll start wearing them more often? 2. Truman! This is The Midwest Indies debut album! Like I mentioned a few days ago, it's not available for purchase juuust yet, but you can stream it on BandCamp for the time being. 3. I baked cupcakes Friday night for the kiddos. They were so cute, staring at the oven, and Jack kept saying, "Mmm! Yummy!" 4. I treated myself to the latest issue of 417 Bride and a grapefruit Izze. It was a relaxing night! 5. Blake and I took a little Sunday drive out to Marshfield (my hometown) yesterday to take a little look at a small church that we were considering for our ceremony. Too bad it was a bit too small for us! And Blake thought it was a little creepy. Oh well! 6. Blake and I went on an all day date to Branson (Vegas of Missouri!) for our 1.5 year anniversary! We spent the day at Silver Dollar City and then drove down the strip looking at all the silly touristy things (like this and this one is our favorite) we swear we will do someday.

So this is life as of lately. We're being kept busy with work schedules and school stuff, but it's been a fun month so far. And next month brings my 21st birthday! I'm thinking of setting some goals for my 21st year. Maybe getting married and pulling off the wedding of my dreams is a big enough goal for right now. ;)

New Blog Read: Independent Gentleman

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Good morning! I would love to introduce you to a new blog read! My friend Zach (a friend from Hipster Tuesday) just started a blog, called Independent Gentleman. Based on the first introduction post her wrote yesterday, I can tell it's going to be an awesome guys lifestyle blog with a little music and movie stuff mixed in there. There's not enough guy bloggers out there! Zach has been talking a lot about this new blog, so I'm super excited to see how the blog progresses over the next few weeks! Hopefully, you'll follow along too. :)
To give you a taste of what Independent Gentleman is going to be about, you can just take a look at Zach's instagram feed - the guy has impeccable style!

Be sure to check out his blog, instagram (@jfkjrjr), and Twitter! Oh, and ladies - he's single. ;)

ps, while I'm here, Blake's band, The Midwest Indies, just finished their album! It's not ready for purchase just yet (it'll be on iTunes in a few weeks), but for now, you can stream it here. Give it a listen!

Dream Venue + Wedding Planning Woes

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

It's so crazy that our wedding date is still 15 months away, yet we have a lot of the *big* details (and even a few details) planned. We have a caterer (my dad, actually!), our wedding party is pretty much all picked (yay!), a photographer, a possible videographer, invites + programs are being designed right now, we're working on the venue (it's proving to be the most stressful part), and we've got a lot of our music planned out.
It is incredibly exciting, and such a happy time - I just want it all to go by so much faster. I'm not taking my time and actually enjoying it... I've been so excited about getting married and having a wedding since I was like two years old, so I'm ready to get the party started! I thought that I would enjoy the whole planning process, but as it turns out - I'm just stressed out (and so is my momma! haha!) But - it doesn't matter how it happens or when it happens, I just want to get married to Blake. That's all that matters. :)

The photos are all from our dream wedding venue, Miss Gilmore's Carriage House. I had no idea this place even existed until I searched high and low on Google, and just stumbled upon it. I blogged about this a few weeks ago, but we went and visited it while Claire was in town and we fell.in.love. While we were there, the woman who runs the venue kept mentioning that she hated her website. Well, my dad's best friend is a graphic designer (and is designing our invites) and he offered to completely redesign her website in exchange for the wedding venue for our wedding. I was ecstatic when I heard that he was willing to offer that to her, and yesterday I got the news that they brought up the offer to her...and she hired someone to do a new website last week. Imagine my bummed out attitude while I was out at the movies with Blake! All I wanted to do was get out of there. I feel bad for being so bummed out about it for so long yesterday, because I know that being sad about things (while useful for some, it never helps me), doesn't get anything done. And just because she couldn't accept the offer, it doesn't mean we have to give up the venue! It just means we're going to have to move things around in our budget and continue sweet talking my dad. The only other option if all that doesn't work out is moving our wedding date so we can have our original wedding location. So nervous, but I know it'll all work out the way it's supposed to.

And like I said - in the end, I get to marry Blake and that's all that matters. :)

Thanks for letting me vent! Sometimes I just need to write it all down and get it out of my system - plus, it'll be great to read back on all these wedding woes after we're married and get a good laugh out of it. :)

Obsessing over the video I found on youtube... if you search some random assortment of letters (I can't remember what, or I'd tell you!) the search results come up with the ENTIRE Hunger Games movie. I'm not even joking, I watched it today while I did homework. It's the crazies thing ever!

Working on homework for school. Since the 'semester' is only 8 weeks long, everything is in super speed, and it's awful. I definitely don't like how fast paced it is, and I think that I'll probably never put myself through summer classes ever again.

Thinking about auditioning for a local production of Les Miserables. Auditions are next month, and are by appointment only. I'm kinda freaking out. I want to do it so bad, but I haven't been in a show since my sophomore year of high school. Yikes!

Listening to the news right now, but on my Spotify playlist, I'm currently listening to Fun, the new Beach House album, and Miley Cyrus ;) (Blake and I listened to her the entire way to Branson yesterday!)

Wishing for the rest of this week to speed by (I find myself saying that a lot...). I'm really looking forward to the weekend, even though I'm not doing anything much. Blake's cousin Ashley is coming home on Friday! She's been in China since February, so we are all VERY excited to have her back! We only get 2 short months with her before she heads back in August for school again! :(

I hope you have had an awesome Wednesday! Blake's band's album is finally finished, so I'm looking forward to hearing it soon. If you're in the Springfield area on July 20th (I think), you should come to their album release show! It's gonna be a good one!! :)

Quick snapshots of the weekend.

Monday, June 11, 2012

1. The first night Claire was here. We watched Bridesmaids, went out for Pineapple Whip, and I cooked a delicious dinner of tilapia, green beans and cheesy rice. :)
2. Saturday we went to look at a wedding venue; if you follow me on Instagram, you know a lot about it already. ;) it's absolutely gorgeous, and just the perfect place all around.
3. We ate at Grad School on Saturday. Grad School has the best burgers and fries. I always get the Full Ride!
4. This is where the ceremony will take place, if we choose to get married at the wedding venue we looked at on Saturday. The lady said its the perfect place to hang mason jars and lights. She had me at mason jars.
5. Sunday after church, we went out for a sweet treat at Andy's. I'm not a big ice cream fan (although, Blake makes the argument that it's not ice cream, it's frozen custard.
6. We were greeted this morning by a storm early this morning, and the power was out in my apartment for over an hour! So we trucked on over to Gailey's for breakfast this morning: peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes. So wonderful...so full.

Claire stayed for the weekend. I hadn't seen her since January! We live about 4.5 hours apart, so we don't see each other nearly often enough. Miss you already, Claire!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Obsessing Over wedding locations. As I mentioned yesterday, our original location fell through because we aren't willing to budge on the date, so we are looking elsewhere. We have around 4 different locations, 3 of which cost $1200+, which is a big shock because we were looking at paying around $200-300 for our first location. So, needless to say... we'll definitely be spending more money than we intended...and I need to sweet talk my daddy. :)

Working on school things. The summer semester started on Monday, and I'm already dreading the next two months. I have like 5 projects due on my birthday! What fun is that?!

Thinking about all the fun that Claire and I are going to have this weekend! She'll be here Friday-Monday. So we have a weekend packed full of fun things to do (including her very first trip to Red Velvet! As well as visiting some wedding venues!)

Listening to the beautiful silence known as nap time. :) Other than that, currently playing on my iPod (or more like, my Spotify account) is this song. It was the song behind the Hatfields & McCoys previews... definitely made the show look better than it was... I just couldn't get too into it.

Wishing for tonight & Thursday to be done with so Claire can be here! Getting so excited! ... I need to do some grocery shopping first. :)

Last night I watched a miniseries that was on over in the UK (and maybe in the US? I don't know), about the Titanic.  It was a rather interesting take on a story we all know by heart. I enjoyed it, but I certainly wouldn't watch it again. If I'm going to watch 3 hours worth of a ship sinking, you can bet I'll be spending that 3 hours watching Leo ;)

Have a happy Wednesday!
I'm off to read a little before the kiddos wake up!

Wedding planning, thus far.

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

We have a date! We were wanting a June wedding, but the heat so far this June (and it's only the fifth!) has us convinced otherwise. Our families both agreed upon September 28, 2013. So we have fifteen months to go! Hopefully you'll stick around for the journey! I definitely plan on posting progress of planning as we go along. And I'm super excited!
Anyways, we originally picked June 22, 2013. Come to find out, Dad apparently has a "BBQ competition" already scheduled for that date. What? Seriously? So, we nixed that date. It wasn't until this past weekend we started tossing the idea around of a wedding in September. It seemed to be the least busy month for my family, so we scouted out some dates. After some talking, we had our hearts set on September 28th. Why? Because it's my grandparent's anniversary. (And grandma is SO excited to share!)
Our first choice location isn't available on that date because of a fall craft festival (that I NEVER miss, but it looks like I'll be missing it next year...). So, it looks like we'll have to search elsewhere. Last night, my mom and I started a list of places we want to visit. I think we are going to try and fit in a visit or two this weekend while one of my bridesmaids (Claire!!) is in town. Excited to start the planning process for real!
We haven't even talked about size OR budget yet (scary topics we are avoiding, yikes!) ... so that may influence a few choices of venue.
Did your first choice venue ever fall through? What did you do?

Obsessing over the book I'm reading at the moment. It's called Real Marriage, by Mark and Grace Driscoll. I am only a few chapters in so far, but I am loving it. Blake's sister in law was reading it over the weekend while we were at the lake and I caught the tail end of a conversation about the book and my interest was sparked! I wanted to start it immediately, so I downloaded it on iBooks... so I've been reading it on my phone when I have time. Have you ever read a book on your phone? It's tough business, guys.
I'm also reading a book called Right from the Start by David and Lisa Frisbie. Basically, it's all about making sure your relationship has the best foundation possible before going into marriage. I've had this sitting by my bed for a while, and I've started it numerous times, but I'm finally able to really read it. So far, so good!

Working on a list of things to do while Claire is in town in a few weeks. This will be her first trip to Springfield ever, so I'm pretty excited to show her around! And who knows, we might even fit in some wedding related projects while she's here! #lovehavingcraftyfriends

Thinking about school stuff. I still have yet to get some things resolved and it's making things rather difficult. The summer semester starts next week, so I'm becoming rather anxious about it all.

Listening to The Civil Wars. I was listening to them yesterday while I worked on a painting for my brother's fiancee. Barton Hollow just sounds so good on vinyl!

Wishing for the next, oh, five months to pass by rather quickly. Why, you may ask? Because I got JUSTIN BIEBER TICKETS FOR MY BDAY. Oh yes, celebrating my 21st birthday like a 10 year old. Breigh and I will be seeing good old JB in October, and we couldn't be more excited! Thank you Blake for the awesome (not so secret) surprise!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Thoughts on being real.

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Just a random photo of the Hooters that Blake and I ate at right after getting engaged. #classy

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. Lately as in last night.
I was catching up on blogs and I just kept thinking, "these people have incredibly perfect lives."
We all know that this is not true. No one has a perfect life. But when you put your life out on a public space and you only show the positive, it just sort of kind of makes us all feel like crap.

I am so far from perfect. I am stressed out all the time (Blake can tell you that this is very, very true). I have an anxiety problem (and maybe even acid reflux, exciting I know). I have this problem with not taking school seriously sometimes. I have struggled with depression the majority of my life. I never see my best friends, and speaking of my best friends, one of them has a 2 brain tumors and a kidney disease, which adds to the stress. I'm not embarrassed by the imperfections of my life, but I deal with it all enough in real life that I don't want to continue talking about here, you know?

But then again.
I look at a couple of different blogs and I think "How is she this pretty all the time?" 'Why can't I just up and move to Paris?" "Why is her family the cutest ever?" "How THE HECK does she look like that after giving birth?" "WTF, I just want to take weekend trips to NYC whenever I feel like it like she does." A reoccurring theme with all of these thoughts was most definitely "COME ON NOW. This can't be real life."
And when I see this stuff, I wish more bloggers would share the real aspects of their lives... not just the sugar coated happy butterflies and flower fields aspects of the lives.

This is me just thinking out loud, because it's something that's been sitting on me heavily in the past, oh, 12 hours. I don't want to be one of those bloggers who just blogs about the good stuff. I want to be able to write about the bad stuff, too. I don't know. Like, I said... I'm just thinking out loud.

I feel like I just did one of these not too long ago. Man, the week goes by so fast!

Obsessing over Glee's finale (wait, was that the finale? I'm not sure, whatever. The most recent episode). I've said this before but I used to be a total Gleek. It was mine and my dad's thing - we would watch it together every week. As the show progressed though, I kept watching, but it was just out of habit, I just wasn't that into it anymore. But HOLY COW, the past couple of episodes have been great!

Working on blogging, wedding idea gathering, school planning, all that stuff.

Thinking about school. I have been so stressed out about how this semester would turn out, and now that it's over (and it didn't turn out so great, btw*) I was even more stressed, to the point of where I couldn't sleep last night. But I stayed up extra late and I did some planning and mapped out the rest of my time at OTC (my school), and I'm feeling much more at peace with it all now. :)

Listening to (or watching, actually) Bridezilla's. Why do I love this show so much?

Wishing for ice cream. I don't even like ice cream.

Other things, as of lately:
-I am so excited for my bestie (and bridesmaid!), Claire! She starts her new internship at her church today! Proud of you!
-A local theater is putting on a production of Rent next month and I want to see it so bad! A few years back, the national tour came to Springfield & my dad took me to see it. So I'd love to see a local version!
-My mom and I went on a date last night. We ate at Maria's (she's obsessed with their seafood tacos now!) and we saw Hunger Games, since she hadn't seen it yet. She said it reminded her of The Truman Show. Let's just keep in mind that she had no prior knowledge of what Hunger Games really was before she saw it. ;)
-The Springfield Blogger Love meet up is coming up on June 2nd! Are you going? :)

Anywho! I hope you have a fantastic Wednesday! I'm so ready for the weekend. Blake and I are going to a wedding + a grad party + I think going to the lake for the weekend. Happy girl right here!

xo Haley

*I took a public speaking class this semester. If you know me - you know that public speaking is NOT my thing. At all. Well, throughout the semester, giving speeches got easier and easier. My last speech had to be done in front of five people, on campus, and recorded for my teacher. I got through with it just fine and I think it was probably my best speech of the semester. Last night I get online to check my grade, and I got a zero. Why? Because I got so caught up in getting that speech turned in, plus some other projects turned in, that I forgot to turn in my Works Cited for my speech - so she emailed me and told me that she wouldn't grade it because I didn't turn it in.. So, 250 point assignment down the drain, I (almost) failed the class, and it lowered my GPA significantly. I was so bummed last night, I even cried a little bit. But as I said, I'm feeling much better now that I have a plan of the rest of my time at OTC. I'm very excited about the coming semesters now! Sigh. I learned that lesson the hard way, but at least I'll never have to take that class again, and I'll know to be more careful when keeping track of assignments. Sigh, sigh, sigh.

Disney Dreaming

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

I went to Disney World for the first time when I was 7 years old. My family went on a vacation to Florida to stay with my dad's sister (she lives there) for the week. On the very last day of our vacation, we got to spend the day in Magic Kingdom. This was such a big deal because as everyone knows... Disney World is not cheap. It was seriously a dream come true, even though I can't remember it now, and I only have pictures to remind me. We went again when I was 10 (my birthday was actually right in the middle of our trip!) - my dad's company has an annual week long meeting in some random location, and that year, it was in Disney World, so that families could come along. This was an even bigger dream come true for me (and my family) because we were able to stay at the Contemporary Resort (which is like, top notch, let me tell you). We got to spend an entire week on Disney property, and got to visit every single park (some more than once!). I spent my birthday celebrating with Mickey and Minnie, and to this day, I still remember eating breakfast in Cinderella's castle. That trip to Disney is by far my favorite memory, even though I can't clearly remember it these days. (Old person brain!)

Anyways.

I'm getting married! The whole thing is still sinking in, seeing as I've been planning my wedding for years. And I'm coming to find... with Pinterest at my finger tips 24/7, I basically have all that I want to do for my wedding completely planned out. All that I have to do is book things, and start the hundreds and hundreds of DIY projects. And with over a year until the actual wedding, I've got time to get this stuff done. So... my attention has been focused on the honeymoon! Blake and I have decided on... Disney World (didn't see it coming, right? Haha!). We've been reading all the books and the websites and talking all.the.time about Disney related things... and I can't wait! I think we are more excited about Disney World than the actual wedding!

Looking through Disney blogs and such, it kinda makes me wish I was more of a princess kinda girl. If I were, I would totally force my parents into a Disney World wedding. Those things are stinking expensive though! But seriously. They look amazing! I'm sure my parents are glad they aren't going to have to shell out for a destination wedding of that level. :)

I just wanted to share this today! We have Disney on the brain over here! So if you have any fun stories or tips, feel free to share! We *love* hearing about Disney vacations! It's our current obsession. :)

Monday is the best day of the week.

You wanna know why?

The Bachelorette.

My crazy obsession with the show started not too terribly long ago when Breigh made me watch clips of a previous season. It just so happened that Brad's (2nd) season had just started, and was probably only 3 or so episodes in. So, I spent a day catching up on Hulu and then watching faithfully every Monday night after that. I even made Blake watch the finale and then ran to get ice cream between the finale and the After the Final Rose Ceremony.

Since then, Ashley has been the Bachelorette, Ben was the Bachelor (worst season e v e r) and now Emily, America's sweetheart, is the new Bachelorette. I am SO stoked.
I'm not one for reality tv, but this is seriously my guilty pleasure.

Since Ashley S. was booted off on Bachelor Brad's season, she's been running the blog Say No To Cosmo, where she recaps every episode and writes about other dating related things (she's been my favorite contestant ever, I just love her!) She provided this awesome bracket to fill out for the upcoming season... I have mine filled out, do you?!
I am *always* guilty of looking up Reality Steve's blogs... and I found out who the final 4 are... and only two of my guys are correct! But oh well, I'm keeping the same bracket. It'll be fun to see how well I did on the other weeks!
Anyways... I just wanted to fill you on Ashley's blog! Let me know if you fill out a bracket! Maybe I'll share mine next week!
:)
